About thirteen (13) fishermen are reportedly missing in the sea at Ada since Thursday, September 14, 2023.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed the unfortunate news.
According to the Ada East District NADMO Coordinator, Ebenezer Teye Kisseh Nartey, two fishing boats carrying a total of 23 fishermen got capsized in the estuary whilst trying to enter into the Volta River.
He revealed that all 10 fishermen in one of the boats were rescued alive but the 13 other fishermen in the second boat are still missing.
He stated that his outfit in collaboration with the Ghana Navy have embarked on a search and rescue mission.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ebenezer Dan-Doe, the Public Relations Officer of the Ada East NADMO, is reporting a different figure.
Mr. Dan-Doe said the two boats, Shalorm and Barcelona, were carrying a total of 19 fishermen when they capsized.
“These two fishing boats went fishing and they were coming back when they met a tidal wave and the two boats capsized,” he narrated.
“The name of the first boat is Shalorm and we got to know that there were eleven people on board. We have seen ten and one is missing. We have also seen the boat, which is damaged.”
“With the issue of the second boat, we got to know that eight were on board. Two have been found and six are missing. NADMO, the Navy, and the community search team are still searching for the missing fishermen.”
