The Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) has marked its 14th edition of the National Competition with a powerful call to action: invest in tools that shape not only young minds but future leaders.
Addressing the media on the first day of the competition, on August 9, 2025, at Pentecost Convention Centre, Kasoa, in the Central Region, UCMAS Managing Director Girish Gurbani urged parents and educators to prioritise programmes that build intellectual and emotional resilience in children.
“This initiative is more than an academic tool, it’s a visionary platform that equips students with the problem-solving skills, emotional intelligence, and creativity needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” Gurbani stated. “If we want a generation ready to meet global challenges with courage and innovation, UCMAS is not just helpful it’s essential.”
Held under the theme “UCMAS: A Requisite Medium for Training 21st Century Students to Solve Global Challenges,” the competition brought together over 140 schools from across the country. Winners will be honoured with branded UCMAS trophies, celebrating their achievements in mental arithmetic and cognitive excellence.
Gurbani also highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence in education, encouraging young learners to embrace technology as a vital part of their future.
He revealed that while UCMAS currently operates in select government schools with PTA support, the organization is actively seeking partnerships to expand its reach to all public schools in Ghana.
“We believe every child deserves access to this transformative programme,” he added.
Echoing this sentiment, Roger Oheme, UCMAS Business Development Director, emphasised the programme’s impact over the past 15 years. “We’ve seen remarkable improvements in children who once struggled academically. The confidence parents place in UCMAS continues to grow, and the results speak for themselves.”
Parents at the event shared glowing testimonials. One mother said, “After enrolling her daughter in UCMAS, her logical reasoning and intelligence have soared. I strongly urge the government to integrate this into the national curriculum.”
As UCMAS continues to shape young minds across Ghana, its leaders remain committed to expanding access and nurturing a generation equipped to lead with intellect, empathy, and innovation.
