15.3% reduction in transport fares takes effect today

Transport fares are expected to go down by 15.3% from today, December 19, 2022, across the country.

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) announced the downward adjustment following the decrease in fuel prices.

The fares reduction cover shared taxis, intra-city (Trotro), intercity, and haulage.

A statement issued by the Road Transport Operators on Friday, December 16, 2022, said, “Following these negotiations and in consideration of the Drivers, Commuters and the General Public, we have resolved to the existing transport fares by 15.3 %”

The Operators said the reduction was in the wake of “the recent reductions in prices of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the rates in line with the Administration Instrument.”

“Consequently, series of negotiation meetings were held with stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare reduction commensurate with the current fuel prices.”

It urged the Commercial Transport Operators to “comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals” adding “we further request Operators, Commuters and the General Public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.”
