17-year-old girl dies in alleged arson over domestic dispute

A 50-year-old farmer in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region has allegedly set fire to his own daughter after a dispute with his wife.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when the farmer returned home and demanded that his wife have sex with him. When she refused, tensions flared, and he is said to have poured a flammable substance into a room where his wife and seven family members were gathered.

As shouts of alarm rang out, many occupants managed to escape through windows and doors. Tragically, the farmer’s 17-year-old daughter, who was sleeping at the time, could not flee in time and was engulfed by the flames.

Neighbours rushed to help but were unable to save the teenager, who died before medical help could arrive.

In the aftermath of the blaze, the suspect attempted to take his own life by ingesting what locals believe was weedicide.

Before he could receive medical attention, a group of enraged youth from the community apprehended him.

In a reveal of raw grief and anger, they overpowered the weakened farmer and inflicted fatal injuries. Authorities later arrived to find both the victim and the accused dead.

The Police have launched an investigation into both the original act of violence and the subsequent mob attack.
