A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress’ legal team, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has described Godfred Yeboah Dame’s response to the $170million debt scandal on the nation as unfortunate stressing that the Attorney General has been defensive and sought to maintain his innocence on the matter.
The lawyer for the NDC was defending the press conference held by the party that condemned reasons the government gave for abrogating the GPGC energy deal.
“Ordinarily, this matter would not have generated the needed public discussion save for the rather regrettable, digressional tactics deployed by the honorable attorney general of the republic and here, Godfred Yeboah Dame,” he said on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Tuesday, June 29.
Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe noted that the Attorney General’s reaction to the matter sought to shield his image rather from the responsibility he shirked that never offered the nation a chance to benefit from the negotiation in any way.
“Now his attempt at diverting the public attention from the incompetence and sloppiness demonstrated by the office that he man’s relating to defending and protecting the interest of the republic to the extent that the opportunity for us to even attempt to set aside the arbitral award is now closed forever and ever,” he added.
He indicated that Mr. Odame never made any effort to soil his hands to rescue the nation from the financial distress yet sought to hold back his respect.
“Now when you have an attorney general who thinks that everything is about PR and his image will come to a situation whereby even his own boss or former boss will attempt to throw him behind bars with the view that as far as he Godfred Dame is concerned, he is Pontius Pilate,” he stated..
Edudzi Tamakloe said Mr. Dame got himself involved in unimportant issues when the nation had time to redeem her image, stating, “It is interesting to note that as at January 25th thereabout when this award and subsequently the attempt at taking everything or setting it aside, we had our attorney general busy in the Ghanaian court on the issues of the Hohoe, Amewu, and all those things.”
