A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour after admitting to robbing and attacking a 25-year-old man at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of Ghana’s Ashanti Region.
Ahmed Mustapha was arrested on 21st July 2026 by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team after police received a report that a man had been attacked near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
Police said Mustapha tried to escape when officers arrived and hid inside an uncompleted building nearby.
He was chased and arrested, with the victim’s mobile phone and a cutlass believed to have been used in the attack found in his possession.
The victim sustained cutlass wounds to his forehead, neck and left hand. He was taken to KNUST Hospital for treatment after losing consciousness and was later reported to be in stable condition.
Mustapha appeared before the Asokwa Circuit Court Two on 27 July, where he was charged with robbery and causing harm.
He pleaded guilty to both charges and was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
On 10 August, he was brought before the court again, with Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah presiding. The court convicted him on both charges and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Police said Mustapha has since been transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving his sentence.
