2023/24 GPL: Hearts of Oak finish the year in thrilling fashion; Dreams, Vision and Nations pick away draws: Gameweek 15 wrap-up

Accra Hearts of Oak displayed a spiriting performance to record a 3-2 win against Accra Lions at the Sagakope RedBull Arena in their final game of the 2024 calendar year. 

Following an evenly contested opening minutes, Hearts of Oak opened the scoring in the 36th minute after Mohammed Hussein headed in a fantastic cross from Saani Mohammed.

Accra Lions came back stronger after halftime and pulled parity in the 52nd minute through Lucky Nwafor. The home side turned the game around in the 73rd minute, Ezekiel Alladoh went round the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net.

With 15 minutes left, Coach Abubakar Outtara sent on Mawuli Wayo, who quickly made an impact by scoring in the 81st and 84th minute to turn the game around and give Hearts of Oak a 3-2 win.

Samartex’s struggles continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nations FC. Solomon Adjei put Samartex ahead in the 33rd minute, but Emmanuel Annor equalized for Nations FC just 10 minutes later.

At the Berekum Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea and Dreams FC played to a goalless draw.

In Tamale, Karela United and Vision FC also ended in a 1-1 draw. On Saturday, league leaders Heart of Lions clinched a 1-0 win against Young Apostles at the Kpando Stadium, thanks to an 87th-minute goal from Kwesi Pong.

Legon Cities’ struggles continued as they fell 1-0 at home to Aduana FC, with Abdel Bamba netting the only goal of the match.

The other match of the round, featuring Nsoatreman and Medeama, was postponed because several Medeama players are participating in the CHAN qualifiers with the Black Galaxies.
