The Black Galaxies intensified their preparations for the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 Qualifiers against Nigeria, with victories over Great Olympics and Attram de Visser in two friendly matches at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday.
Coach Mas Ud-Didi Dramani’s team triumphed 5-2 against Great Olympics, with Mustapha Yakubu from Hearts of Lions netting two goals, while Issah Yakubu of Basake Holy Stars, Rahman Mohammed of Nsoatreman FC, and Saaka Dauda from Asante Kotoko grabbed a goal each.
In their second match against Attram De Visser, the Galaxies secured a 2-1 win, with goals from standout at the recent WAFU B U20 Championship, Jerry Afriyie and Hafiz Ibrahim.
These friendly matches are crucial for the team’s preparations ahead of the 2024 CHAN qualifiers against Nigeria in December. The first leg is set for December 20-22, 2024, while the return leg will take place in Nigeria from December 27-29, 2024.
Ghana previously eliminated Nigeria to qualify for the last CHAN tournament in Algeria, winning in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 aggregate score.
The winner of this two-legged tie will earn a spot in the CHAN 2024 tournament set to be hosted in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania next year.
The CHAN tournament is specifically for players competing in their home countries.
