Former Deputy Minister for Transport, Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus Glover, has described the New Patriotic Party’s defeat in the 2024 election as a shocking outcome that caught both party supporters and the wider Ghanaian public off guard.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, Mr. Glover said the scale of the National Democratic Congress victory came as a surprise, despite what he described as the NPP’s record of major policy achievements while in government.
“The 2024 election was a shock to us, to all Ghanaians, including NPP supporters,” he said during an interview with host Moro Awudu.
“We delivered digital transformation, roads, Free SHS, but the economic hardships changed everything.”
Mr. Glover explained that rising inflation, the depreciation of the cedi and the daily cost of living pressures overshadowed the government’s accomplishments and ultimately shaped voter behaviour.
According to him, the enthusiasm that greeted the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during the NPP primaries did not translate into votes on election day.
“At the primaries, the energy was there,” he said. “But at the polls, our achievements faded in the face of people’s daily struggles.”
Mr. Glover said the election outcome should serve as a moment of deep reflection for the party as it looks ahead to rebuilding and repositioning itself for the 2028 elections.
“This result demands serious soul searching within the NPP,” he added. “If we want to regain the trust of Ghanaians, we must understand what went wrong and fix it.”
