2024 polls: EC approves four independent candidates and nine political parties for presidential race

Nine political parties and four independent candidates can now legally compete in the 2024 presidential elections, according to the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC). On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Ghana will hold elections.

The EC confirmed the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Convention People’s Party (CPP), All People’s Party (APC), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and National Democratic Party (NDP) have all met the requirements to contest the presidential race in a statement released on September 20 and signed by Samuel Tetteh, Deputy Chairman of Operations.

Four independent candidates have also been approved to run in the eagerly awaited elections: Alan Kyerematen, George Twum-Barima-Adu, Nana Kwame Bediako, and Kofi Koranteng.
