Black Stars coach Otto Addo has acknowledged the team’s defensive struggles and has promised to work on improving individual tactics ahead of Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifier.
Speaking at a press conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Coach Addo admitted that the team’s defenders have been struggling with positioning and spatial awareness.
“We have problems with that… it’s more a positional thing, recognizing when the ball is open, not to be too close to your opponent, to step back, cover the space and have like four or five meters distance from your striker,” he explained.
Coach Addo emphasized the importance of body positioning, saying, “If you’re sideways, you can run to both sides very, very fast… if you’re standing like this and you’re flat-footed, you have to turn first.”
He expressed confidence that the team has addressed the issue and is working to improve.
“I’m convinced that this won’t happen again,” he said.
The Black Stars take on their opponents in the AFCON qualifier on Thursday, and Coach Addo’s tactics will be put to the test.
