The 2025 Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup has officially been launched in the studios of Iqra Radio Ghana, with 15 Zongo communities set to participate in this year’s competition.
This edition marks the 10th anniversary of the prestigious tournament and will feature a lineup of past winners and teams that have performed remarkably well over the years. The competition has grown in significance as one of the most celebrated sporting events within Zongo communities across Ghana.
Three-time champions Ashaiman, who lifted the trophy in 2015, 2016, and most recently in 2024, have been granted a standby position for the preliminary round in recognition of their historic achievement as the most successful side in the tournament’s history. The remaining 14 communities will battle it out in the preliminary stage for a spot in the quarterfinals.
The preliminary round features some mouth-watering matchups: 2019 champions Nima will face Sabon Zongo, two-time winners Kasoa (2020 and 2021) will go up against Ashale Botwe, Shukura will battle it out with Adabraka, and 2018 and 2023 winners Maamobi will square off against Tema, among others.
This year’s edition of the competition, which aims to bring together Zongo communities and honor the Chief Imam, will take place on April 12th and 13th at the Kawukudi AstroTurf.
