Twenty-eight Ghanaians, most of them young people, have been rescued from a human trafficking network in Ivory Coast and returned home, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
The ministry said the victims arrived safely in Ghana on Saturday after a joint operation involving Ghanaian officials in Abidjan and security operatives in Ivory Coast.
In a statement, the ministry described the trafficking operation as a sophisticated criminal network and said the rescued victims were assisting investigators.
The government also praised the Ivorian authorities for their cooperation and intelligence sharing during the operation.
Officials have warned the public to remain alert to fraudulent travel and job offers, especially those made by unlicensed recruitment agencies.
The ministry urged Ghanaians to verify employment and travel opportunities with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, or Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad before making any commitments.
The government said efforts were continuing to dismantle the trafficking network and bring those responsible to justice.
It added that the welfare and protection of Ghanaians remained a priority.
