Three people have died and about 23 others have sustained several degrees of injury in an accident on the Cape Coast highway in the Central Region.
The accident, which happened at the Residential Road Junction near Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School, involved a Yutong bus with registration number GW 6231-21.
The bus, which was traveling from Takoradi to Accra, had 53 passengers on board when it fell on its side, trapping some passengers underneath.
A rescue team from the regional headquarters and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station were quickly dispatched to the scene to rescue the trapped casualties.
According to eyewitnesses, the team worked tirelessly to rescue all the casualties, who were then sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical care.
Twenty-three survivors are currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, while nine others have been treated and discharged.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, but an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
