The CEO of Ghana Hydrological Authority, Dr. John Kissi, has revealed that a staggering $5 billion is required to effectively address the country’s flooding challenges.
Dr. Kissi explained that this estimate is based on the severity of current flooding incidents and their impact.
However, the agency has only received GH¢92 million to tackle flooding nationwide.
Meanwhile, Works and Housing Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, acknowledged that Ghana’s infrastructure lags 15-20 years behind in terms of resilience against flooding and climate change.
These disclosures were made during the Ministry’s appearance before the Parliament’s Assurance Committee to address flooding concerns and measures to dredge the Kpeshie and Keta Lagoons.
