MTN Ghana has announced that it has experienced a cybersecurity incident, potentially affecting the data of about 5700 customers.
“While at this early stage of the investigation, we have not been able to ascertain the full extent of the incident, early indications are that about 5700 MTN Ghana customers’ data may have been affected,” MTN announced in a statement on Monday, April 28.
The giant telecom company assured customers that their platforms remain fully operational and that they are working closely with leading cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic investigation.
“We are devoting the requisite resources to resolve this matter,” the statement read.
“The confidentiality, integrity and availability of our systems remain central to how we operate and serve our customers.”
MTN Ghana further advised customers to remain vigilant and follow regular security measures, such as keeping apps and devices updated, using strong passwords, and being cautious of unexpected messages.
“We assure our customers that the privacy of information is our top priority, and we remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of our systems and the trust placed in us by our customers and other stakeholders,” the company stated.
Affected customers will be contacted directly, and the company has provided a toll-free customer care number, 100, for queries and additional information.
The investigation is still ongoing, and MTN Ghana has promised to provide updates and guidance as necessary.
