A 67-year-old food vendor, Ama Forson, has been released after spending four years and seven months in prison over a drug offence she was later found not to have committed.
Ms Forson was originally sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted in connection with illicit drugs allegedly found among her belongings.
According to reports, the drugs were hidden among her belongings by a customer shortly before police arrived.
She was arrested and subsequently prosecuted, leading to her conviction and imprisonment.
However, Ms Forson maintained her innocence and challenged the conviction.
Following an appeal and further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case, she was acquitted after it was established that she was not responsible for the drugs.
Her release means she has now regained her freedom, but only after losing more than four years of her life in prison.
For Ms Forson, the acquittal cannot restore the years she spent behind bars or erase the personal cost of being separated from her family and livelihood.
