A Plus is an attention seeker – UCC Lecturer

Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere

A senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast has dismissed claims that the government’s anti-corruption campaign [ORAL] has stalled, describing outspoken activist Kwame Asare Obeng as an attention seeker.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Monday, April 13, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere said the criticism of Operation Recover All Loot [ORAL] was misplaced and did not reflect the reality on the ground.

He rejected suggestions that the initiative had collapsed, insisting it remains active and relevant.

“I think A Plus is an attention seeker,” he said, responding directly to recent social media comments in which the activist described the programme as ineffective and “dead”.

Operation Recover All Loot, launched under President John Dramani Mahama, is a flagship anti corruption drive aimed at tracing and recovering misappropriated public funds and assets.

The initiative was set up early in the administration’s term as part of efforts to strengthen accountability.

According to officials, the programme has received thousands of reports from the public, including a large number of complaints alleging financial misconduct.

But the initiative has faced mounting criticism from Mr Obeng and other commentators, who argue it has failed to deliver on its promises.

Dr Otchere disagrees. He maintains that the work of the committee is ongoing and that public expectations should be tempered with an understanding of the complexity of recovering stolen assets.
