A/R: Eight arrested in Apremadi for illegal mining

Eight men have been arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal mining at Apremadi in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

According to the team, the operation was carried out based on intelligence that some miners were destroying farmlands and water bodies in the area. When officers arrived, the suspects were caught in the act, operating heavy machinery to dig for gold.

The arrested men have been named as Karim Issaka, 38, Samuel Dugah, 35, Seidu Karim, 35, Issaka Azitarigah, 24, Boadu Desmond, 29, James Kabutey, 21, Bashiru Idrissu, 19, and Collins Amoako, 24.

During the operation, officers seized three excavator monitors, four excavator control boards and three excavator gear levers from the site. Efforts are underway to move the excavators from the location to a secure place.

The suspects are currently in police custody to assist with further investigations while the seized equipment remains in police hands.
