Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a man suspected to be behind a planned robbery targeting a gold miner at Manso Abrense near Manso Nsiana.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command said the suspect, identified as Stephen Kwakye, was arrested on 30th December 2025 after intelligence revealed a plot to attack a miner who regularly transports gold to Kumasi for sale.
According to the police, investigations so far indicate that Kwakye played a central role in organising the planned robbery. He allegedly monitored the movements of the victim and coordinated with other accomplices to ambush him while he was in transit.
Police said officers closely followed developments after receiving the intelligence and moved in when the suspect showed up to collect his share of the robbery proceeds, having been told that the operation had been successful.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted his involvement in organising the planned attack, police said.
Kwakye is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. The police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest his accomplices so they can be brought to face the law.
