Former US President Barack Obama has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Pope Francis, praising the pontiff’s humility and profound impact on people worldwide.
In a Facebook post, Obama described Pope Francis as a “rare leader” who inspired people to be better versions of themselves.
“Pope Francis was the rare leader who made us want to be better people,” Obama wrote, highlighting the Pope’s simple yet profound gestures, such as embracing the sick and ministering to the homeless.
Obama noted that Pope Francis’s example reminded people of their moral obligations to God and one another, shaking them out of complacency.
“In his humility and his gestures at once simple and profound… he shook us out of our complacency and reminded us that we are all bound by moral obligations to God and one another,” he said.
The former US President expressed his condolences, urging people to continue heeding Pope Francis’s call to action, quoting his words: “never remain on the sidelines of this march of living hope.”
