Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate a $34.9 million ambulance spare parts scandal involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former Health Minister Kweku Agyemang-Manu.
Speaking on Metro TV’s News Night on Monday, July 22, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that he has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to launch a criminal investigation into the controversial ambulance spare parts deal, which he described as a “sordid affair”.
Ablakwa is seeking a thorough probe into the matter, citing allegations of corruption and wrongdoing.
Ablakwa’s petition follows a damning audit report by the Auditor-General, which found that Service Ghana Auto Group Limited inflated invoices, used National Ambulance Service staff for maintenance, and breached maintenance schedules.
In a Facebook post, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that documents obtained from the Ministry of Finance show that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta authorized the payment of $34.9 million to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for spare parts for 307 ambulances purchased in 2019.
The Chairman of the Economic Committee said this translates to $113,695 per ambulance, far exceeding the value of a fully equipped new ambulance.
“This is a clear case of looting and a violation of value for money and love for country,”
His petition seeks a thorough investigation into the scandal, citing “stinky create, loot and share” practices by the government.
Ablakwa vowed to continue fighting against corruption, stating, “For God and Country. Ghana First.”
