A journalist with Metro TV was allegedly threatened by the Personal Assistant to the Ablekuma West Municipal Chief Executive during the National Sanitation Day exercise in the constituency.
The incident happened when the reporter, who was covering the clean-up activity, asked about the whereabouts of Hon. George Nii Kpakpo Allotey, the Municipal Chief Executive, whose absence had drawn complaints from some residents.
According to witnesses, the journalist was interviewing a resident when the aide approached and introduced himself as the MCE’s Personal Assistant.
The reporter also introduced himself and asked why the MCE was not present, noting that residents were unhappy about it.
The aide reportedly replied that his presence represented that of the MCE. When the journalist asked whether being a Personal Assistant meant he could act as the MCE, the aide took offense and began issuing threats.
The confrontation was captured on video and has raised concerns about the treatment of journalists during public assignments.
