Ghanaian national Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been extradited to the United States to face criminal charges linked to an alleged $8 million romance fraud scheme.
Reports say, Kumi left Ghana on Thursday morning aboard Delta Airlines flight DL 157, just hours after his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, said his client had been rushed to the Police Hospital in Accra and claimed he had been denied access to legal counsel.
According to the lawyer, he was unable to locate or meet Kumi before the extradition took place, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding the process.
Kumi’s extradition follows a ruling by the High Court in Accra ordering that he be handed over to US authorities to stand trial over allegations connected to a romance fraud operation said to involve about $8 million.
