Accept new Minority leadership if you seek for change – Dr Ntow to NDC Supporters

A political analyst and a former PNC Parliamentary candidate for Akuapem North Constituency, Dr. Desmond Twumasi Ntow has called on angry National Democratic Congress supporters to be calm and accept the new changes in the minority caucus in Parliament.

It appears all is not well among the NDC grassroots in the Asawase constituency of the Ashanti Region and the Northern Region Secretariat following the decision by the party to reshuffle its leadership in the lawmaking house.

Members of the Asawase NDC have cautioned the NEC to immediately rescind its decision on the reshuffle it made amongst the minority caucus in Parliament.

Describing the reshuffle as segregation against Northerners and the Zongo caucus, the Asawase NDC called on the functional executives to bring back Muntaka and Haruna Iddrisu to their respective positions.

According to them, the ‘tsunami’ change will have grave consequences on the party should the NEC fail to reinstate the two key personalities

Members of NDC in Tamale and its surrounding areas also expressed their dissatisfaction over the removal of Haruna Iddrisu as the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament.

The aggrieved youth have formed a front called the Coalition of NDC Youth Groups in Tamale with the main aim of supporting Haruna Iddrisu’s political course.

The NDC on Tuesday, January 24, replaced Haruna Iddrisu with Cassiel Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader. Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi was also replaced with MP for Ellembelle, Armah Kofi-Buah while Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak was also replaced by Governs Kwame Agbodza.

The decision by the party has caused rancor among some party supporters in Tamale South in the Northern Region and Asawase in the Ashanti region.

However, responding on Kasiebo Original on Original 91.9 FM to a question about, how the seeming cracks in the NDC following the reshuffle can be addressed, Desmond Twumasi Ntow said urged the party members to remain calm.

“In fact, if I were to be asked, I would say ideally, if the party can get the former Minority Leaders and the new team together, it will be fantastic,” he said.

“As a political party, our job is to ensure that we are able to work together as people who are of the same stables and for that matter, think alike and so the supporters should have no problem with that at all,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the NDC has justified the shake-up in its leadership in Parliament despite criticisms from its own members. The party said the decision is apt and works best for collective other than individual interests.
