Adaklu Mountains: Ghana’s Next Frontier for Paragliding Excellence

Ghana’s tourism landscape is steadily evolving, driven by innovation, diversification, and a commitment to unlocking new destinations with high-value experiences.

Following the continued success of paragliding at Kwahu Mountains, attention is now turning to another remarkable natural asset, Adaklu Mountains.

At the official launch of the 2026 Kwahu Paragliding Festival, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, announced that feasibility studies are currently underway to develop the Adaklu Mountains into Ghana’s next premier paragliding destination. This strategic move signals a bold step toward expanding Ghana’s adventure tourism portfolio beyond its traditional strongholds.

The Adaklu Mountain range, located in the Volta Region near Ho, is one of Ghana’s most striking yet underutilized natural landscapes. Known for its iconic peaks, particularly Mount Adaklu (locally called Heaven’s Gate), the area offers breathtaking panoramic views, rolling valleys, and a serene natural environment that remains largely untouched.

Unlike heavily commercialized sites, Adaklu presents an authentic, raw, and immersive experience, making it an ideal candidate for sustainable tourism development.

The selection of a paragliding site is not arbitrary; it requires a combination of geographical, meteorological, and experiential factors. Adaklu checks all the right boxes:

The mountain’s elevation and natural slopes provide excellent take-off and landing conditions for paragliding. Its open ridgelines and gradual descents create a safe and enjoyable flying experience for both beginners and experienced pilots.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the area benefits from stable and predictable wind patterns, an essential requirement for safe and consistent paragliding operations.

Adaklu offers a unique visual experience distinct from Kwahu. While Kwahu boasts forested ridges, Adaklu delivers sweeping savannah-meets-highland views, dotted with rural settlements and dramatic rock formations, creating a completely different aerial narrative.

As feasibility studies progress, the Ghana Tourism Authority remains committed to ensuring that any development at Adaklu aligns with international safety standards, environmental sustainability, and community inclusion.
