ADB Records GH¢230m Profit in First Half of 2025

The Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB) has posted a remarkable profit after tax of GH¢230.5 million for the first six months of 2025, nearly tripling its earnings compared to the same period in 2024, when it reported GH¢80 million.

This significant leap, according to the bank’s unaudited half-year financials ending June 30, 2025, marks a pivotal moment in ADB’s transformation journey, driven by a renewed corporate strategy and disciplined financial management.

Growth Drivers and Financial Highlights

ADB’s performance was underpinned by a combination of strategic asset realignment, strong growth in interest income, and tighter control over costs and expenditures. The bank’s total assets rose sharply by 32%, reaching GH¢14.99 billion, up from GH¢11.35 billion a year earlier.

Customer deposits also increased, climbing to GH¢12.03 billion from GH¢10.17 billion, reflecting growing confidence in the bank’s new direction.

Perhaps most notable was ADB’s turnaround in equity position—from a negative GH¢27.1 million in June 2024 to a positive GH¢1.51 billion by mid-2025. This reversal was largely driven by strong earnings and a boost in capital support.

In a bid to sustain this momentum, the bank adjusted its asset mix, moderating loan growth while increasing its allocation to investment securities. This strategy has enhanced income stability and reduced risk exposure.

Leadership Perspective

Commenting on the half-year results, Managing Director Edward Ato Sarpong emphasized that the performance reflects deliberate efforts to reposition ADB into a leading force in the Ghanaian banking sector.

“This half-year performance is a reflection of our vision to make ADB among the top 3 banks in Ghana,” he said.

“Whilst the bank is set to be fully recapitalised next year, measures have been put in place to ensure the delivery of sustainable growth.”

Mr. Sarpong also acknowledged the staff’s resilience and alignment with the bank’s new strategic direction, which is encapsulated in its refreshed corporate tagline: “Beyond Banking…”

Board Backing

Board Chairman Kenneth Kwamena Thompson reinforced the Board’s support for the executive team’s vision, noting that the results demonstrate ADB’s repositioning as a serious contender in the banking industry.

“These results reflect a bank that is being repositioned to take its rightful place in the banking industry,” Mr. Thompson stated.

As ADB continues to implement its strategic agenda, the bank appears poised for long-term financial resilience and sector leadership. The positive momentum from the first half of 2025 sets a strong foundation for continued growth and transformation.
