Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is set to appear before the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Disciplinary Committee on April 7, 2025.
The NPP summoned her due to alleged misconduct, specifically her recent media appearances where she discussed party issues, which the party claims violate its directives.
Adwoa Safo’s comments are said to have fostered discontent, negativity, and division within the party, contradicting its efforts to rebuild and maintain unity.
The disciplinary committee will investigate and determine the outcome.
Party Directives
The NPP recently issued a directive cautioning members against making public statements that could deepen divisions within the party.
Members are expected to uphold the party’s reputation and refrain from discussing internal matters that may harm the party’s image.
Background
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) referred the former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to the disciplinary committe for allegedly breaching party directives.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party stated that Adwoa Safo’s comments on Joy News’ Pulse Show were “clear contravention” of a directive issued to all party members to cease discussing matters that create disaffection within the party in the media.
According to Justin Kodua, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms.
“The directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” the statement read.
The party views Adwoa Safo’s actions as not only a disregard for the directive but also an undermining of the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.
As a former Member of Parliament, Deputy Majority Leader, and Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, the party said Adwoa Safo was expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that have always defined the party.
Adwoa Safo deserves empathy, not punishment – OPK to NPP leadership
Her failure to do so, according to the party, reflects poorly on her and is in contravention of Article 3(5) of the party’s constitution, which enjoins members to promote and defend the good name of the party.
