Afenyo-Markin Calls for Unity as NPP Prepares for Flagbearer Elections

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its highly anticipated flagbearer elections, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged party members to act with unity and respect for the party’s legacy. His call comes as the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

In a heartfelt Christmas message to Ghanaians and NPP members, Afenyo-Markin reminded party members of the sacrifices made by the NPP’s founders in establishing a robust political tradition. The Minority Leader emphasized that it is now the responsibility of every member to preserve and protect this tradition for the future of the party.

“As we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer election next year, let us treat one another and our cherished tradition as sacred,” Afenyo-Markin urged. “What our forebearers put together through their sweat and blood, let no party member put asunder.”

With the NPP facing internal challenges after a disappointing performance in the December 2024 elections, Afenyo-Markin called for caution. He warned against actions that could harm the party’s unity, credibility, and moral authority.

“Let us not act in any way that would destroy the unity, credibility, and moral authority of our party,” he said. His message comes as the NPP prepares for early primaries as part of internal reforms aimed at reorganizing the party and ensuring a stronger position in the 2026 general elections.

The NPP has set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries. The decision to hold early elections is part of an effort to strengthen the party after its underperformance in the 2024 elections.
