Afigya Kwabre North MP and member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has disputed Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Director-General Prof. Amin Alhassan’s assertion that GBC received only $105,000 for broadcasting the African Games.
In an interview on Original FM’s Super Sports Show, Adomako-Mensah revealed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports contracted GBC for $3.6 million, covering broadcast rights and technical support.
He explained that GBC acknowledged technical shortcomings and requested third-party assistance, leading to a direct payment of $2.5 million to GBC and $1 million to the third party, totaling $3.5 million.
Adomako-Mensah criticized GBC for not transparently disclosing the payment breakdown.
“GBC should have acknowledged the $2.5 million payment and provided a clear breakdown of how the funds were utilized,” he said.
GBC has denied receiving excess payment for broadcasting the African Games, sparking further controversy.
