The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has denied receiving excess payments for broadcasting the African Games, contrary to claims made by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif at the Public Accounts Committee sitting on Tuesday, August 20.
According to GBC’s Director-General, Prof. Amin Alhassan, “The statement that GBC was paid ‘in excess of three million US dollars’ comes as a surprise” as the corporation was only entitled to $105,000.
Prof. Alhassan explained that GBC outsourced technical production to external companies, including PGS, Quality Media Production S.L., and The Production Room (TPR), due to lack of equipment.
Regarding unpaid technicians, GBC stated, “There are no outstanding payments to local technicians who were engaged by GBC to work on the African Games. All payments to local service providers have been effected.”
Prof. Alhassan noted that GBC staff received a daily subsistence allowance of GH¢100 each, with no outstanding payments.
Prof. Alhassan emphasized, “Only staff who were at games location were paid. There are no outstanding payments to be effected.”
