Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture, has formally announced his resignation.

The former cabinet minister delivered his letter of resignation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, January 10.

He is stepping down to concentrate on achieving his goal of becoming president and leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the general elections of 2024.

The resignation was accepted by President Akufo-Addo, who wished him luck in all future endeavours.

Meanwhile, last week Alan John Kyerematen, the Trade Minister, also announced his departure from the administration in order to concentrate on his campaign for president.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto represented the Kwadaso Constituency in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, as a Member of Parliament for two terms.

He served as the Deputy Ranking Member in Parliament before becoming the substantive Ranking Member for the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs until 2017 when he was appointed the Minister for Food and Agriculture.
