Aggrieved Gold Coast customers to petition Mahama over locked-up funds

Aggrieved customers of Gold Coast Fund Management are set to hold a public gathering in Accra on Tuesday, September 1, to demand urgent action over their outstanding locked-up funds.

According to a press statement issued by the leadership of the Aggrieved Customers of Gold Coast Fund Management, the customers will converge at the forecourt of Ebenezer Presby Church in Osu between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The organisers say buses will be provided at 11:00 a.m. to transport protesters from the convergence point to Jubilee House, where they intend to present a petition to President John Dramani Mahama.

The group has stressed that protesters will not walk from Osu to Jubilee House, stating that all participants will be conveyed by buses provided for the exercise.

The aggrieved customers say the gathering is intended to draw renewed attention to funds they claim have remained outstanding for years.

They are calling on the government to expedite action towards the payment of the locked-up funds and are urging affected customers to participate in large numbers.

“Our greatest strength is our numbers, unity and peaceful determination,” the group said in its statement.

The organisers have also invited customers affected by the collapse of other financial institutions to join the action, arguing that the financial sector crisis affected thousands of Ghanaian families.

The group has appealed to media organisations, civil society groups, religious bodies, traditional leaders and members of the public to support and amplify its concerns.

It has also assured the authorities and the public that the gathering and subsequent movement to Jubilee House will be peaceful, orderly and disciplined.

The planned action comes as affected customers continue to push for the resolution of outstanding claims arising from Ghana’s financial sector crisis.

The group, led by its convener Charles Nyame, has urged all affected Gold Coast customers to attend the gathering.

“Enough is enough,” the group declared, reiterating its demand for the payment of the locked-up funds.
