Former fetish priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Accra Circuit Court following her conviction on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.
The conviction and subsequent sentencing come in connection with a high-profile money-doubling scam she orchestrated in 2022. Nana Agradaa was found guilty of luring unsuspecting victims through a televised broadcast, where she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
The fraudulent claims prompted several members of the public — many of them vulnerable congregants of her Heaven Way Church — to part with large sums of money, expecting supernatural financial returns that never materialized.
The presiding judge, Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah, handed down the 15-year custodial sentence following confirmation that Agradaa was not pregnant — a determination made after a mandatory court-ordered pregnancy test.
“This ruling sends a strong message to individuals and organizations that exploit religious faith for personal gain,” the court noted in its judgment, calling Agradaa’s conduct “deliberate, deceptive, and damaging to public trust.”
The case has generated intense public interest since it first broke, reigniting national debate around spiritual scams and the unregulated operations of self-proclaimed religious leaders. Many citizens have welcomed the sentence as a landmark moment in the fight against fraudulent religious practices.
