President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has reassigned Ahmed Ibrahim from the Ministry of pooLocal Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The change is part of President Mahama’s latest adjustments to his ministerial team announced on Friday, August 7.
In the statement available to Metro TV, the Presidency listed Ahmed Ibrahim among ministers being moved to new portfolios.
He has been reassigned to the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry, taking over from Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who has been moved to the Defence Ministry.
“The President has also, reassigned the following Ministers to the corresponding portfolios,” the statement said.
From Parliament to Local Government and now Works
Ahmed Ibrahim is the Member of Parliament for Banda in the Bono Region and has been in Parliament since 2009.
Before entering government, he became known in Parliament as a member of the NDC leadership, serving as Deputy Minority Chief Whip.
He was nominated by President Mahama in January 2025 to become Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Ahmed Ibrahim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Ghana and an MBA in Finance from GIMPA.
His new portfolio will put him in charge of areas with major infrastructure implications, including public works, housing and water resources.
That will require him to move from the political and administrative concerns of local government into a ministry dealing directly with infrastructure delivery and basic services.
Ahmed Ibrahim has spent much of his political career in Parliament, where he has also served on committees including the Special Budget, Communications, Local Government and Rural Development, and Business Committees.
