Ahmed Toure Urges Kotoko and Hearts to Rise on African Stage

Former Asante Kotoko striker Ahmed Toure has expressed hope that Ghana’s top football clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, will elevate their performance and re-establish their dominance on the African football stage.

Speaking during an interview with King Kaninja on Accra-based Original TV, the Ivorian forward said clubs of such stature must live up to their legacy by competing at the highest levels across the continent.

“I expect big clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to always be at their best. These are historic teams that should be making their mark at the top level in African football,” Toure stated.

Ahmed Toure, who enjoyed successful stints with Kotoko, is widely regarded as one of the most talented strikers to have graced the Ghana Premier League.

His comments come amid ongoing concerns about the underperformance of Ghanaian clubs in recent CAF competitions.

Both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have rich continental histories, with Kotoko winning the CAF Champions League twice (1970, 1983) and Hearts of Oak famously clinching the title in 2000. However, in recent years, both clubs have struggled to make significant progress in Africa’s top-tier tournaments.

“The potential is there. The history is there. What we need now is consistency, planning, and belief,” he added.

As the new Ghana Premier League season intensifies, supporters of both clubs will be hoping that their teams can take inspiration from legends like Toure and bring back the glory days—both locally and across Africa.
