Airbus scandal: Focus on Mahama’s acquittal, not label – Gyampo slams media

A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has questioned the media’s focus on the Airbus scandal.

Prof Gyampo is concerned about the media sensationalism, asking “Which one is a sensible news item worth reporting… Mahama being Government Official One or Mahama not guilty of corruption charges?”

In a Facebook post, Prof Gyampo stated “Media freedom is not licentious and coterminous with media tyranny. Media practitioners aren’t tin-gods and tin-goddesses; we must demand accountability from them.”

He emphasized, “In every right-thinking society, media sensationalism and irresponsible editorialism must be confronted and called out.”

Gyampo noted, “Some media houses and practitioners are committed to nationalism and patriotism… commend and encourage those doing well, and subject irresponsible ones to strict proofs.”

He bluntly stated, “Though some politicians are corrupt, SOME MEDIA PRACTITIONERS are worst, especially when induced financially.”

Gyampo concluded, “Sika y3 mogya” (money is blood), but “what is the value of money without peace?”
