Akatsi South records major development gains as MCE marks one year in office

The Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, has painted a strong picture of progress, accountability, and renewed development momentum as he marks one year in office, highlighting significant achievements across key sectors.

Delivering his Sessional Address at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly on April 29, 2026, the MCE emphasized that his administration has made steady strides under the government’s reset agenda focused on inclusive governance, improved service delivery, and socio-economic transformation.

Security Strengthened, Confidence Restored.The municipality has seen improved security presence following increased collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the military.

Joint patrols and intelligence operations have significantly reduced crime fears, restoring public confidence and ensuring safety for residents and businesses.Revenue Surpasses Target Amid Financial Recovery.

In a major financial boost, the Assembly exceeded its 2025 Internally Generated Fund (IGF) target, recording over GH¢1.6 million against a projected GH¢1.39 million.

The Assembly has intensified efforts to improve access to healthcare with ongoing construction of CHPS compounds and renovation of health facilities across communities such as Zuta, Ahipeado, and Wute.

In education, multiple classroom projects are underway or near completion, including, A 6-unit classroom block at ZutaNear-completed facilities at DzuepeCompleted projects at Glikpome and others.

These interventions aim to reduce overcrowding and improve teaching and learning conditions.Roads, Water, and Agriculture Receive Boost.Despite funding delays under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), efforts are ongoing to rehabilitate key roads linking farming communities to markets.

Water access is also improving, with 20 boreholes being drilled and mechanised across selected communities to ease the burden on residents, especially women and children.In agriculture, over 10,000 day-old chicks and essential inputs have been secured under a poultry initiative expected to benefit 200 households, promoting food security and income generation.

Youth and Vulnerable Groups Empowered.

The Assembly has rolled out impactful social interventions, including: Distribution of vocational tools to youth under apprenticeship programmesSupport packages for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)Cash transfers to over 1,300 households under the LEAP programmeThese initiatives are reducing unemployment and strengthening livelihoods across the municipality.

Ambitious 2026 Projects Pipeline

Looking ahead, the Assembly has lined up major projects for completion in 2026, including:Construction of classroom blocks and nurses’ quarters.

Development of a 24-hour market at Akatsi.

Rehabilitation of market sheds and public facilities, Expansion of educational infrastructure.These projects are expected to further transform the municipality’s economic and social landscape.

Call for Unity and Continued Support.

Hon. Dagba attributed the progress made to collaboration among Assembly Members, government agencies, and community stakeholders, urging continued unity to drive sustainable development.“Together, we shall build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous municipality,” he concluded.
