Akroso community appeals to Mahama for dev’t support

Nana Kwabena Ofori II, the Chief of Akroso in the Asene Manso Akroso district,  has pleaded with former President John Dramani Mahama to remember the needs of Akroso and its surrounding communities should he win the 2024 elections.

Speaking before a gathering of local supporters during Mahama’s Eastern Regional campaign tour, Nana Ofori II highlighted several critical issues facing the town and its youth, particularly in the areas of education, sports, healthcare, and agriculture.

The chief began by calling attention to the stagnation in the town’s growth.

“The development of Akroso has slowed down, and we are pleading with you, John Dramani Mahama, to remember us when you win power,” he said.

One of the key priorities, he noted, is the establishment of a nursing training school in Akroso to provide opportunities for the youth and support the town’s growth.

Nana Ofori II also emphasized the untapped potential in the town’s youth, particularly in sports.

“Akroso has a lot of talented youth, especially in football and athletics, but we lack the infrastructure to support them,” he explained.

“There is no park or AstroTurf to help harness these talents.”

The chief revealed that he had made provisions for land, inviting anyone willing to construct a sports facility in Akroso.

“We kindly ask that you consider building a sports facility for us when you win the upcoming elections,” he urged Mahama.

In addition to sports, the chief called for the upgrading of Akroso’s health post, which has served the community since 1963.

“We pray that you consider upgrading our health post to a full hospital with better facilities to serve the growing needs of our people,” Nana Ofori II said.

On the agricultural front, Nana Ofori II raised concerns over the relocation of the town’s agricultural offices to Asamankese, which he said has made agricultural work difficult and increased unemployment in Akroso.

“Even though Akroso is a major cocoa farming community, we have been shortchanged in the agricultural sector. The relocation of the offices has left our farmers in a difficult position,” he lamented.

He appealed to Mahama to address these challenges to restore agricultural jobs and support the livelihoods of farmers in the area.

Nana Ofori II’s endorsement of Mahama was clear, as he expressed hope that a victory for the former president would bring the necessary changes to revitalize the town and uplift its residents.

“We are praying for your victory, and we believe it will bring restoration to Akroso and our people,” Nana Ofori II concluded.
