National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah on Thursday delivered a special message from President Akufo-Addo to Mali’s Interim President, Colonel Assimï Goita, in Bamako.
He led a delegation from Accra that engaged Col. Goita in lengthy conversations about security in West Africa and the Sahel behind closed doors.
Following the meeting, Mr. Kan-Dapaah told the media that Ghana and Mali have had close historical ties stretching back to the early post-colonial years and that as a result, Ghana is concerned about the welfare and advancement of the Malian people.
“We did talk about how we can be of help to each other because a fire in your neighbour’s house has to be of concern to you,” he said.
He added that Col. Goita sent President Akufo-Addo “warm welcomes” and said Ghana was looking forward to more interactions with Mali.
Maj. Gen. Adu-Amanfoh, Ambassador Kwabena Osei-Danquah, Special Advisor to the Foreign Ministry, Benedict Dere, Executive Secretary of the Accra Initiative, and Napoleon Abdulai, Ambassador of Ghana to Mali, were all present in the delegation.
