Akufo Addo speaks out on loss of Defence Minister and 7 Others

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed profound shock and sadness at the sudden loss of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Hon. Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment and Science and MP for Tamale Central; Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flight Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

In a Facebook statement, the former president said he had personally conveyed his deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, and to NDC Chairman Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

He paid tribute to the bravery and dedication of the Ghana Air Force and offered prayers for the families of those who perished.

“I condole with our gallant men of the Ghana Air Force at this troubling time and salute their vital role in our nation’s life. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families,” Mr Akufo-Addo said.

In his closing remarks, the former president invoked a prayer for the departed: “May they find peaceful rest in the bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”
