Ama Pratt hits back at Minority over calls to sack COCOBOD CEO

The Press Secretary to Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ama Pratt, has pushed back against claims of political retribution, asking whether the opposition New Patriotic Party ever dismissed non-performing appointees during its time in government.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Madam Pratt challenged what she described as attempts to paint the governing National Democratic Congress as vindictive.

“Did the NPP sack anybody during their time in office?” she asked

Her remarks followed comments by Bosome-Freho Member of Parliament, Nana Asafo Adjei Ayeh, who appeared on the same programme reiterating the Minority in Parliament call for the dismissal of COCOBOD Chief Executive, Dr Randy Abbey.

The lawmaker argued that Dr Abbey should be removed over delays in payments to cocoa farmers and what he described as one of the worst periods in Ghana’s cocoa production history.

Addressing the broader discussion on cocoa production in Ghana, Madam Pratt defended the government’s handling of the sector and stressed what she called a commitment to professionalism and continuity in public administration.

She rejected suggestions that the government was pursuing vendettas, insisting that its focus remains on stabilising key institutions and rebuilding the economy.

She also criticised the previous NPP administration, accusing it of failing to work in the national interest and leaving behind significant challenges in the cocoa sector and the wider economy.
