Ghana’s Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith has called on investors in the United States to consider opportunities in Ghana, saying job creation at home can reduce risky migration and strengthen the country’s economy.
Speaking at a meeting with Pennsylvania State Senator Scott Martin, the ambassador said many people leave their countries in search of work because opportunities are limited at home, often exposing them to difficulties with immigration enforcement agencies such as ICE.
“If we are able to create jobs for our people, they would not have to migrate and run into problems with ICE,” Ambassador Smith said.
He described the current year as positive for Ghana and said the focus now was to consolidate the gains made.
He pointed to agriculture as the backbone of the Ghanaian economy and stressed the need to reduce the country’s dependence on imported food.
According to him, increased investment in agriculture would not only create employment but also strengthen food security and keep more value within the local economy.
The ambassador said his mission in the United States was to promote Ghana as a destination for investment and partnership.
He told the senator that Ghana offered opportunities that could benefit both local communities and foreign investors.
“My mission is to talk about the opportunities in Ghana and to invite you to invest,” he said, describing such partnerships as a win win situation for all sides involved.
The meeting forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to attract foreign investment, boost domestic production and create sustainable jobs for its growing population.
