Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has called for African investments to deliver tangible opportunities, create jobs and improve the livelihoods of people on the continent.
Speaking at the maiden Africa Business Investment Summit held under the theme, “Shaping Africa’s Future”, Ambassador Smith said investment should go beyond mobilising capital to producing real economic and social benefits, particularly for Africa’s growing youth population.

“investment must improve lives, It must create jobs and must provide opportunities for our young people,” he said.
The summit brought together business leaders, investors and other distinguished personalities to explore ways of unlocking capital, directing strategic investments and building partnerships to support Africa’s economic transformation.
Ambassador Smith also highlighted the role of traditional institutions in supporting modern economic development, paying tribute to the Convenor of the summit, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He described the Asantehene as a leader whose influence extends beyond the traditional institution he represents, noting his contributions to education, peace, development and investment.
“Throughout his reign, His Majesty has demonstrated that our traditional institutions can be powerful partners in modern development, mobilising communities, promoting education, supporting peace and stability, encouraging investment and preserving the values that bind society together.”
According to Ambassador Smith, Africa’s cultural heritage and traditional institutions should not be viewed as barriers to economic progress but as assets that can support development.

“Our traditions and our pursuit of modern economic development are not opposing forces. Properly harnessed, our heritage, institutions and cultural identity can provide stability, trust and social cohesion, the very foundations upon which sustainable investment and prosperity can flourish”, he stressed.
He said Africa must build an environment where young people can pursue their ambitions and create meaningful futures on the continent instead of being compelled to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Ambassador Smith further welcomed the Asantehene’s participation in the summit, describing his presence as an inspiration to efforts aimed at building a more prosperous Africa.
The maiden Africa Business Investment Summit provided a platform for discussions on how capital, innovation, expertise and strategic partnerships can be harnessed to drive sustainable development and create opportunities across the continent.
