The Accra Regional Police Command has intercepted a private ambulance used to transport narcotics in Labadi, arresting a 39-year-old suspect, Kwame Mananyi Tuanda.
The ambulance, registered as GX 277-20, was intercepted on September 10, 2025, after sustained surveillance.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 700 parcels and 473 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, concealed in sacks.

The suspect, who claimed ownership of the ambulance and its contents, admitted to engaging in the illegal activity since last year.
Investigations revealed that the ambulance had transported the suspected narcotics from Kpando in the Volta North Region to Accra for distribution to interested buyers.

The police also discovered that the suspect had fitted the vehicle with a siren and used it for transporting dead bodies, aside from drug trafficking.

The vehicle has been impounded, and the exhibits retained for evidential purposes.
The substances will be forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.

The suspect is being processed for court while investigations continue.

The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against the abuse of legitimate service vehicles for criminal activities, reaffirming its resolve to clamp down on drug trafficking.
