The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has begun the distribution of medical equipment worth GH¢1.5 million to health facilities across the district.
The exercise, which commenced on Wednesday, April 8 at the Manso Amenfi Health Centre, forms part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and upgrade the facility into a full-fledged hospital.
The equipment distributed includes anaesthetic machines, patient monitors, centrifuges, blood pressure apparatus, and weighing scales.
Presenting the items on behalf of the MP, the DCE, Peter Amponsah urged the district health directorate and healthcare providers to ensure proper use and maintenance of the equipment to enhance service delivery.
He further called on stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organizations, companies, and philanthropists, to support the upgrade of the Manso Amenfi facility into a standard district hospital.
He also expressed concern over the absence of a hospital in the entire Amenfi Central District.
The District Health Director, Ganiyu Kantamah Nuhu, expressed appreciation to the MP for the donation, describing the move as timely and impactful.
He noted that with a population of over 130,000, the lack of a district hospital continues to pose serious challenges to healthcare delivery in the area, and assured that the equipment would be put to good use.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Wassa Manso Amenfi, Nana Hyia Agyemang III, commended the MP for her proactive efforts in improving healthcare without waiting for external support.
He appealed to the government and the Electricity Company of Ghana to provide a stable power supply to health facilities in the district to ensure efficient healthcare delivery and patient safety.
The donation is expected to significantly improve healthcare services and support the long-term goal of establishing a district hospital in Amenfi Central.
