American politician Lauren Davis pays glowing tribute to Ghana at Ghana-Seattle Business Forum

At the Ghana-Seattle Business Forum held on Thursday, April 23, American politician Lauren Davis delivered an emotional tribute to Ghana, recounting her personal experiences living and studying in the country.

Speaking at the event, she described her time at the University of Ghana as “formative years that truly shaped the person she has become.”

Embracing what she called her Ghanaian identity, Davis introduced herself as “Adwoa, a Ghanaian girl born on a Monday,” drawing laughter from the audience as she shared her early cultural encounters.

She recalled how common Ghanaian expressions such as “I will snap you” and “flash me” initially left her confused, but soon became part of the memorable experiences she now holds dear.

She further highlighted the deep sense of community that defines life in Ghana.

“In Ghana, you are never alone, you are known, you are loved, you are raised by a community,” she said.

She recounted moments when neighbours stepped in to care for her during illness and strangers extended kindness in everyday situations, from trotro rides to roadside interactions.

Describing her admiration for the country, Davis declared herself “a big believer that West is best,” praising Ghana as home to “the most beautiful, authentic, humble, and kind people the world over.”

She urged stronger partnerships between Ghana and international partners, stressing that such collaborations must be built on human connection and mutual respect.
