Andre Ayew, one of Ghana’s most celebrated footballers, has completed a winter transfer to Dutch Eredivisie club NAC Breda.
The 36-year-old forward, who had been without a club for the first half of the 2025/26 season, has signed a contract that will see him play with the Dutch side until the end of the current campaign. The signing of Ayew brings a wealth of international experience to the struggling club, as they look to secure their place in the Eredivisie for the following season.
Ayew is no stranger to top-tier football, with a career that has seen him play for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Olympique Marseille and Swansea City. The Ghanaian legend has earned 120 caps for the national team, the Black Stars, and has made a significant impact in every team he has played for. Now, Ayew is determined to bring his leadership and experience to NAC Breda, who are currently in a precarious position in the Eredivisie.
On his move to NAC Breda, Ayew expressed his eagerness to help the club navigate through a difficult period. “I’m someone who really enjoys challenges, both personally and as part of a team,” Ayew said. “I find that here at NAC. I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. We’re in a situation where staying in the Eredivisie is the only thing that matters. The mental aspect is perhaps the most important thing in this situation. Together with our supporters, we must fight this battle head-on in the second half of the season.”
With the club currently fighting to avoid relegation, Ayew’s arrival could not have come at a better time. The veteran forward is expected to play a crucial role as NAC Breda looks to secure survival in the competitive Eredivisie. The club’s technical director, Peter Maas, praised Ayew’s commitment to the challenge. “Andre is eager to help NAC in their fight for survival. That’s become very clear from our conversations,” Maas said. “We believe that with his experience and specific qualities, he can be of value to NAC right now.”
Ayew is not alone in representing Ghana at NAC Breda. He becomes the third Ghanaian player on the club’s roster, joining Dennis Odoi and Kamal Sowah. The trio will hope to make an immediate impact in the second half of the season as the club strives to stay in the top flight of Dutch football.
