Armed young men stormed a health centre in Assin Wurakese in the Central Region and beat a patient into a coma, forcing terrified nurses to flee for their safety.
The attack happened at the Akoti Health Centre in the Assin Fosu Municipality after an earlier violent clash in the community.
The victim, identified as Yaw Buabeng, had reportedly been involved in a confrontation with a couple, during which both sides allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on each other.
Buabeng suffered serious injuries to his head and hand and was rushed to the facility, bleeding heavily and in need of urgent care.
Nurses had begun treating him when about ten young men, armed with machetes, sticks and clubs, suddenly forced their way into the health centre.
Witnesses said the attackers ignored pleas from health workers and descended on the injured man as he lay on the hospital bed. Fearing for their lives, nurses and other staff ran out of the ward, leaving the patient at the mercy of the assailants.
Buabeng was beaten severely and later fell into a coma. Residents described the scene as chaotic and frightening, saying the attack shattered the sense of safety at the health facility.
