Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra, has issued a strong warning to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), stating that the club will not resume football activities until their demands are fully met.
In a meeting with the GFA in Kumasi, Apinkra expressed his frustration over the late arrival of GHALCA representatives. He also acknowledged that the GFA does not value the club, but emphasized Kotoko’s unwavering resolve to demand the respect they deserve.
“It would have been better if GHALCA had arrived for this meeting even before the IGP. As for the GFA, we know they don’t value us, but we will force you to respect us, whether you like it or not. We will show you that we are Kotoko and Hearts.”
Nana Apinkra stressed that Kotoko’s return to the pitch is contingent on the implementation of necessary reforms. Along with Hearts of Oak, Kotoko has submitted a set of proposals to the GFA, including the formation of an independent league body, improved security measures, automatic representation on the GFA Executive Council, and a fair share of TV rights.
“What we seek is for the security measures and our requests to be addressed before we can resume the league. We can’t say we won’t play the league again, but we will only play if the security measures are in place,” Nana Apinkra stated.
The Kotoko IMC chairman further expressed the club’s frustration, condemning the GFA for their lack of urgency in identifying the perpetrators behind the horrific murder of Nana Pooley.
“I expected that by now, the GFA would have thoroughly investigated the entire matter, including Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who incited the fans against us.”
“But instead, you [GFA] are only issuing fines, even fining people who weren’t involved. It feels like you don’t care. We are angry because this situation is painful. It’s truly painful,” he added.
